Although dentures are artificial, and as such, are not technically prone to infection in similar ways that you may have experienced with your natural teeth, nevertheless they require diligent care. Food can get
trapped between the gums and your dentures. If left
unattended, a myriad of health issues can arise.
You need to remove and clean your dentures daily, using a specifically designed, soft-bristle toothbrush and a mild hand soap/liquid detergent or a denture cleaner. Avoid using toothpaste to clean your dentures, as many of them can be very abrasive. Our office offers a wonderful product to help you with cleaning & sanitizing your denture. Make sure to inquire about our denture cleaner at your next appointment with us.
It is also important to note that when not using your dentures, they should always be immersed in a denture cleaner or water to keep them from drying out & losing their shape. Do not place dentures with metal attachments into a denture cleaner to soak, as this may cause them to tarnish. Never place dentures in hot water to avoid warping.
Remember, dentures do not last forever. You should have regular checkups with your denturist, to make sure that your dentures are still fitted properly, and are in good condition.
